Lynx Updates!

posted Feb 21, 2012 10:41 PM by Eric Cunningham

It has been a great couple of weeks at the Powercat Motorsports shop. We have had the frame complete for about 3 weeks. The engine, electrical box, steering rack and shaft, fuel regulator, and many other things are mounted in the chassis. It is all starting to come together in a hurry and I personally can't wait to drive it! A quick reminder that we have our roll-out on the night of March 30th, only 37 days away!

Christmas Break Updates

posted Dec 21, 2011 12:19 AM by Eric Cunningham

Everyone,

Finally the fall semester is over and what a roll we are on. For the first time ever design was finalized by Thanksgiving. We are getting all parts machined at various shops and the frame and engine are going together at our shop. Check out the photos for a time lapse of the break. The camera is taking a picture every minute we are working all break long. We look to have a rolling chassis by the end of break and we are striving to have the cars first test day be Feb. 19th!

SCCA Nationals

posted Sep 1, 2011 7:38 AM by Eric Cunningham

On August 30th and 31st, Eric Cunningham and Tim Mourlam traveled to Lincoln, NE to represent Powercat Motorsports at SCCA Nationals. We took two cars, Puma and Cougar. Puma was the fasted non-winged car and cougar held its own. Overall Eric and Tim came in 12th and 15th respectively. We used this event as a testing ground for the new FSAE Lincoln event to be held next summer. We learned that the concrete track offers way more grip than we have ever seen before and with the addition of a good aerodynamics package we look to take full advantage of this new racing surface.

Texas Autocross Weekend

posted Jul 25, 2011 5:19 AM by Eric Cunningham   [ updated Jul 25, 2011 3:55 PM ]

On July 23rd and 24th the team traveled to Arlington, TX for a weekend of autocross racing. Saturday we ran in one of University of Texas at Arlington's parking lots. Our times were about mid-pack, which are good considering the hot, slick conditions that made it tricky to drive. On Sunday we raced at the Equipe Rapide SCCA Autocross, again the cars ran well all day and we finished about mid-pack again. Here is a link to results and pictures from Sunday. http://www.autocross.com/er/equiperapide/modules/content/index.php?id=93 and http://www.autocross.com/er/equiperapide/modules/myalbum/viewcat.php?cid=26.  We had a great time as both cars ran strong all weekend. Our next race will be SCCA Salina on August 14th starting at 9:30 A.M.

Team's best 2nd place in cost report!

Panther, however, broke in the endurance race after 9 laps completed, thus giving us a disappointing finish overall.

We will now be fixing Panther and the other cars in preparation for Texas Autocross set to take place at the UTA campus on July 23rd and 24th.

Thanks for all the support from our families, sponsors, alumni, faculty, and Kansas State University we would not be able to do this without you.

Thank you Mizzou for the invite to the Gateway rush. Had a great time running with you guys. Great weather with a nice big parking lot to run it. The course was set up really nice for our cars. We appreciate it again and we'll see you there again next year!
